Twitter is on the look out for a European headquarters, and British Prime Minister David Cameron has put forward London as a possible destination.

The PM, along with London's mayor Boris Johnson, met with Twitter's head of international strategy Katie Jacobs Stanton at 10 Downing Street last week in a bid to get the micro-blogger based in the capital.

A Number 10 source said the Government is keen to get Twitter to set up its first HQ outside of the US in the UK. "All that matters is that they come to London," he said. "They met the Prime Minister and Boris Johnson, as well as advertising execs and key technology partners."

Twitter's main HQ is in San Francisco, California but it is being widely reported that the company wants to spread its wings further afield.

Recently, the Government pledged £400m to create a new Tech City and to encourage US-style innovation around the Silicon Roundabout area of East London.

Getting Twitter to move into the area would surely be a massive boost.
