Service will be charged at a flat monthly rate

Hot on the heels of Vodafone's announcement of its HSDPA 3G card for mobile broadband comes the launch of T-Mobile's own HSDPA mobile network.

T-Mobile says that the network already covers 65% of the population, and that the service will be available from August.

Web'n'walk data cards, which are already HSDPA enabled, installed in notebooks will be the first to receive the HSDPA signal.

Speeds can theoretically be achieved up to 1.8Mbps, although T-Mobile expects them to reach about 1Mbps at the moment.

By the end of this decade, the company has set the goal of achieve speeds of more than 20Mbps, although this seems a distant dream right now.

When the new service launches, a month's web browsing and email on a notebook will cost £17 per month with an 18 or 24 month minimum contract.
