Our series of festive-themed apps continues with an app which might just help some of the poorest people in the world and in doing so, sums up the Christmas spirit - as it's all about the giving.

There are plenty of charities that run this kind of scheme. You can choose from a selection of useful items to be sent to people who otherwise might not be able to afford them, this is then followed up by a card being sent out with picture of the item to a chosen loved one - thereby showing you've thought of them, whilst doing a bit of good.

Designed to make you feel good about yourself, this app is free to download and, as mentioned, allows you to give to your friends and family, at the same time as giving to those in need.

In practice the app works well, and porting the service onto your phone means that buying a pressy is super-accessible.

The range of gifts on offer is good, so you should find something to suit your budget - everything from health checkups to goats, and most gifts ranging from £5-£25. The "virtual" present will be sent to you loved one, whilst the real gift will be sent to those in need of it.

Buying a charity gift has never been so accessible, wherever you are - you can now buy a gift that’s really going to change somebody’s life".  

The best bit, however, is that Nokia says that it will donate 10p to Oxfam for every UK download, so even if you're not thinking of buying anything it's worth downloading in order to boost the amount the phone giant ends up dishing out.

And for those who like a bit of gaming, there's also the "Goat Invaders Challenge" game that should keep you amused for about 5 minutes.
