(RED) has launched its latest social media assault ahead of World AIDS Day which falls on 1 December.

The global campaign - An AIDS Free Generation is Due in 2015 - has the aim of raising awareness that there is a chance of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV within 5 years.

You can do your bit by taking part in the activities across Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Foursquare.

Using the SwiftRiver platform, a data visualisation map has been created using the Ushahidi software that curates social network streams.

Ushahidi is an open-source technology that was initially developed to map reports of violence in Kenya in 2008.

You can help to turn the map (RED) by tweeting the hashtag #turnred, changing your Facebook profile picture to a (RED) image, shouting #turnred on Foursquare to unlock the (RED) badge, or uploading a photo to Flickr using #turnred.

"With over 1000 children infected with HIV each day, over 90 per cent of which are in Sub-Saharan Africa, the goal of an AIDS Free Generation is one that we at (RED), along with the many organizations in the global health community, are committed to trying to make a reality", read the official (RED) statement.

"Since launching in 2006, (RED) has generated more than $160 million for the Global Fund to help finance AIDS programmes that provide ARV treatment and help fund treatment to prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child".

You can see the map at turnred.joinred.com. Come on, do your bit - it's not difficult.
