Look, we know this is a bit Daily Maily, and that tech-savvy Pocket-lint readers like yourself will probably dismiss the BBC video above as scaremongering, but we thought it best that we bring it to your attention just in case.

Because as more and more people get online when they're out as a result of the massive boom in smartphone sales, there are always going to be cyber-baddies out there looking to take advantage of the vulnerable by attempting new ways to steal your monies.

So rather than us showing the video to scare you off of using your smartphone on the fly, we're showing you it so as you're aware of the potential dangers.

Basically, always use networks you can trust and don't store anything highly confidential on your phone. It's as easy as that.

And, if you're buying a smartphone as a present for a friend or relative this Christmas please remember: a smartphone is for life, not just for Christmas.
