Vudu, the video on demand service owned by Wal-Mart, is making its way to the PS3 (in the States) on 23 November.

Offering more than 4000 HD movies (including 1080p offerings), Vudu's platform will be available free to PlayStation Network account holders, and new customers will receive a $5.99 credit, enabling them to watch their first HD movie on the service for free. Other movies start from $2 for a 2-night rental.

Vudu has deals with all the big Hollywood studios and as well as the HD video, you'll get Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound streaming as well.

"PS3 is tailor-made for the high-quality, high-speed Vudu streaming experience", said Edward Lichty, general manager, Vudu. "Now with Vudu on PS3, we are able to deliver a completely immersive experience to those loyal to their entertainment system when they want, where they want".

PS3 VODers are getting quite a service at the moment. The Vudu offering adds to those of Hulu and Netflix in the States, (as well as Sony's own Movie Store) and in the UK we get Lovefilm and Mubi.

Who needs Apple TV, eh?
