LG LX9900 software update brings iPlayer, Twitter, Facebook and more

14 November 2010 11:30 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Owners of the LG LX9900 television have been given a treat this weekend with a new software update that brings a number of new streaming services to users who’ve bothered to have it connected.

The new update, which should automatically appear when you next turn the television on (as long as it’s connected to the Internet), will bring video on demand services like the BBC iPlayer as well as web services like Twitter, Facebook and Google maps.

When the television launched earlier in the year, the “netcast” functionality was limited at best with viewers only able to get weather via AccueWeather.com, YouTube videos and access to Picasa photo galleries.

Now however, the same “netcast” menu is overflowing with streaming services.

Those now present including BBC iPlayer, MLB.tv, Viewster, Twitter, Vtuner, Acttrax, Facebook, Accedo, Google maps, Picasa and AccuWeather.com.

Users can access the new features via the NetCast button on their remote control.

We are awaiting confirmation from LG as to whether or not the new streaming services will be available on other "connected" televisions.

We will update the story as soon as we hear back.
