Google Instant Previews: A window to the world (wide web)

Google is going nuts updating its search engine as of late.

First there was real-time searching, then Google Instant came and blew our socks off, and just as we were putting them back on again Google Instant hit our handsets.

And now the Big G has gone and announced yet another revamp (don't worry - our socks are still firmly in place as we invested in a garter belt) - Google Instant Previews.

The new service lets you peek inside your search results by clicking a little magnifying glass to the side of the result title. You can scroll up and down the other results' previews by simply hovering the mouse pointer, or by using the arrow keys.

"In our testing, we’ve found that people who use Instant Previews are about 5 per cent more likely to be satisfied with the results they click", said Google's Raj Krishnan.

"The previews provide new ways to evaluate search results, making you more likely to find what you’re looking for on the pages you visit".

Krishnan explained via the Google blog that the search giant realises that for the service to work, results need to be "lightening fast". But he states that it is.

"We match your query with an index of the entire web, identify the relevant parts of each webpage, stitch them together and serve the resulting preview completely customized to your search - usually in under one-tenth of a second", he said.

Google Instant Previews is available to try now - take it for a spin and let us know what you think.
