The Firefox Mobile beta has undergone its first major update, with a new version of the browser available for download now.
The update brings with it reduced memory usage, better text rendering, a fresh new UI, the ability to share links with your buddies and the option to undo a closed tab if you closed it by mistake.
The program size is also a lot smaller, down 60 per cent for the Android version from 43MB to 17MB, and there's a promise that this will become even smaller.
Mozilla is also stating that the new release is much zippier than the previous version with SunSpider JavaScript benchmarking up 25 per cent.
Mozilla's director of mobile Stuart Parmenter also stated that the foundation is to continue improving Firefox's mobile offering. "We will continue to improve usability and performance in the next release", he said.
"We’ll add hardware acceleration to make scrolling and zooming even faster and will enable HTML5 video to bring a more rich browsing experience to your phone. We are also working to improve browser responsiveness while Firefox Sync completes the initial sync of your data".
Android and Maemo users can get hold of the latest release directly from Mozilla, but you'll need to completely uninstall any older version you've got loitering on your handset first.
