Acer enters HD media streaming market with Aspire RevoView

Media streamers and DLNA devices are rising in popularity in the UK, with more and more digital video, music and photo content becoming available, and Acer is after a slice of the pie with its Aspire RevoView HD media streamer.

Coming with full DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certification, the RevoView (RV100) can hook up to any computer or NAS drive on your home network, and play media files directly onto you TV via HDMI, component or composite. That includes video up to 1080p 60Hz, although only through the latter.

It is compatible with a number of modern codecs, including AVI, MKV, MP4, VOB, ISO, M2TS on the video side, MP3, FLAC and OGG on the audio. Plus, both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks can be passed through to a specified amplifier or receiver.

In addition to streaming content through its Ethernet port, the RevoView can be fitted with a 3.5-inch hard drive, plus sports a series of sockets for a variety of memory sticks and cards, such as MMC, USB 2.0, SD, xD, etc, and can play content stored on any of them.

And through its connection to the Internet, the box can access YouTube, Flickr and Picasa.

The Acer Aspire RevoView costs £119.99 and will be available from 8 November.
