The day Google founders asked Steve Jobs to be CEO

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin wanted Apple boss Steve Jobs to be Google's first CEO, a new documentary in the US has revealed.

According to interviews in a documentary called  "Game Changers" on Bloomberg TV, Sergey Brin and Larry Page interviewed around 12 or 13 candidates before visiting Apple HQ to see if they could lure away Mr Jobs from all those Macs.

When that move failed the duo plumped for Eric Schmidt, the current CEO, to do the job for them.

Why Schmidt above and beyond everyone else? Turns out they liked the fact that he attended the hippy art festival Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

Far out dude.

The 48-minute documentary follows the path from their first meeting at Stanford to the new media mega-company, which set them on a collision course with old media businesses of newspapers, books, movies and television of today.
