It's PSP Go for the Sony PlayStation phone

There are some rumoured devices in the tech world that are speculated upon so much, and over such a long period of time, that they seem destined to always remain a figment of the web's imagination and never actually become a reality.

One such device is the Sony PlayStation Phone. Sure, the rumour mill has been kicked up a notch or two as of late, but still, until we see actual proof of its existence then it's hard to convince yourself it has a chance of making it into the real world.

But what's this? A whole batch of photos of the PlayStation Phone, showing it in all of it's glory?

Hallelujah, praise his holiness, Kazuo Hirai, the prophecies were true!

Boasting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 chip, and packing 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM, the PlayStation Phone is reportedly going to be running Android 3.0 (under a PlayStation skin, of course) when it hits the market next year (or possibly even this year if we're really, really good and Father Christmas takes note).

The screen size has been estimated at 3.7 to 4.1-inches and there is apparently going to be a dedicated PlayStation Android Market, which makes perfect sense. There's no Memory Stick on board, but there is microSD support.

The look is pretty much spot on to what has been speculated, including the familiar PlayStation buttons and the space in-between these is said to be a multi-touch supporting touchpad.

iPhone killer? Maybe, although it will attract a slightly different crowd. More likely is that it will hit Microsoft the hardest - until now Windows Phone 7 was the only phone platform that had a bona fide console tie-in.

Let the mobile gaming wars begin....
