The super-duper media player - VLC - has been made available for the iPhone and iPod touch, bringing a simple and effective way of playing a variety of files without all the hassle of converting them first.

The VLC app has been on the iPad for some time now, but the new 1.1.0 update brings all the media playing love to the iPhone and iPhone 3GS. allowing you to play a huge number of different file types.

Other features for the update include the ability to delete any files you don't want/need from the app, as well as more extensions and faster decoding.

Users of older iPhone - pre 3GS - will be disappointed as support is focused for newer models only. And if you own an iPod touch the iTunes site says "recent iPod touches", so it rather depends on how recent you device is - vague we know.
