Seriously heavyweight camera-phone on the horizon

Panasonic to bring Lumix brand to smartphone arena

1 October 2010 14:50 GMT / By Paul Lamkin

Now, you're probably familiar with Panasonic's Lumix brand - after all, the Japanese electronics powerhouse has been knocking out Lumix cameras for years now.

But a Panasonic Lumix camera would be a new beast entirely - but that's exactly what we're looking at according to a teaser landing page set up by the company.

Along with the date of 5 October, the page states "Lumix Phone - New information coming soon".

Reports suggest that the Lumix phone could be a 13.2-megapixel touting super camera phone, with a 3.3-inch LCD display, all housed in a 116 x 52 x 17.7mm case. The page also states that a microSD slot will be on board too.

With Nokia pushing the N8 as a monster camera-phone, and alternative efforts such as the 14-megapixel Altec Leo, the mega camera-phone market is heating up nicely.
