GE cameras has added its own effort to what must be the most rapidly expanding market in technology today - that of the mini HD camcorder.

The GE DV1 shoots full HD video, with a maximum full HD record time per session of 29 minutes. Storage is via SD or SDHC memory cards, with a maximum of 32GB.

The DV1's strength is that it is waterproof to 5m, shockproof to 1.5m and is also dust-proof.

It has a 5.5mm fixed focal length lens (33mm-35mm film equivalent) and a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor. Still images can be taken at a speed of 7.3 frames per second and the DV1 lets you take pictures at the same time as recording a movie.

It has a 2.5-inch LCD screen and connectivity via HDMI out and a flip-out USB arm.

The DV1 is out in October, pricing to be confirmed, and will be available in green, orange or grey.
