Design website Core 77 has been running a competition for its readers to recreate their favourite shoes out of Play-Doh, and some of the entries so far are outstanding.

Submissions are still being accepted - until 25 September 2010 - but there are 63 recreations already in the running (no pun intended), including Pocket-lint's current favourite, a modelling of his Adidas Superstar 2.0 trainers by Brikuch15.

There's a grand prize to the overall winner: a $100 dollar gift certificate to Core77's new Hand Eye Supply Store, publication in Sneaker Freaker's December issue, a lifetime subscription to the magazine, and a copy of Kueng Caputo's book Copy. And two honorable mentions will receive a $25 gift certificate to Hand Eye Supply.

However, as the competition is the site's 1-hour design challenge, each entry has to have been completed in no more than 60 minutes.

There's plenty of other efforts also on show on the website: www.core77.com.
