Linksys plans to launch a home personal server later in the yearPocket-lint has learnt.
The new USB external hard drive networking device will allow users to
access any content they have stored on the device anywhere in the world as
long as they have an internet connection.
The move would mean an end to small websites and individuals having to pay
hosting fees to store images moves and music online to share with others.
Linksys told Pocket-lint that the new personal server, which will uses
similar software to the company's current internet-enabled digital camera,
will promise an easy to use interface and a fixed IP address even if the
customers broadband connection doesn't offer the service.
"It will allow you to store your images online without having to pay
recurring hosting fees", said Patrick Lelorieux VP, EMEA sales at Linksys.
Although Linksys has yet to put a price on the new unit, the company did
tell us that it would be out by the end of the year.
We will keep you posted.
