The Canon PowerShot S95, the update to the S90 which we really liked, was announced back in August, and we at Pocket-lint are waiting with baited breath for the arrival of a review sample of the new camera.

Many of the stats read out the same as the previous version of this camera. It still has a 10-megapixel sensor. It still has an F/2.0 28-105mm zoom lens, you still get the same ISO range and shutter speeds.

The design is the same, it feels the same in the hand and you get the same funky pop-up flash and 3-inch LCD display around the rear. Importantly you still get the function ring on the front around the lens barrel, which makes it really easy to control the camera.

New on the scenes front, however, is a high dynamic range shooting option as well as fish-eye effect and miniature effect. You get the option to select the shooting aspect with the option of 4:3, 16:9, 3:2, 1:1 and 5:4.

Video recording now takes a step up to 720p HD capture at 24fps to which you'll also be able to apply the miniature effect. You also get SDXC support, paving the way for larger card capacities in the future.

This is also an HS System camera, so it promises better performance across the ISO range and there is Hybrid IS thrown into the mix which counters two types camera shake to give you a sharper picture.

We expect to be impressed when it arrives, but until then, we've been keeping ourselves warm with these hands-on shots.
