Apple Airprint coming in November

17 September 2010 13:00 GMT / By Libby Plummer

It was only just over two weeks ago that Steve Jobs gave us a sneak preview of what we could expect from the upcoming iOS 4.2 software update at Apple's Special Event on 1 September. Apple has now confirmed that AirPrint wireless printing will be included in the free update scheduled for November.

With a beta version released to members of Apple's iOS developer program today, AirPrint will be availble on the iPad, iPhone (3GS and 4) and iPod touch (3rd gen onwards) and enables you to automatically find printers on local networks and print text, photos and graphics over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or software.

AirPrint will support a wide selection of printers from entry-level inkjet models up to laser printers, with HP's ePrint-enabled printers being the first to support printing direct from iOS 4.2 devices.

The iOS 4.2 update will also introduce Airplay - an updated version of AirTunes which will let you stream music and video and view photos over Wi-Fi.
