Walking around barefoot is one of life’s simplest pleasures – it’s just a shame about the stones, the hot sand and the dirt that you pick up. Vibram have set out to change that with the Fivefingers – the barefoot shoe.

The concept originated from sailing – sailing barefoot is a great feeling – you get a sense of control and feedback, as well as not having the problem of wet shoes. However, protection and grip are key concerns. Enter Fivefingers, which fits like a goove, giving a barefoot feel, with the protection and grip of a Vibram sole.

Vibram has long been the name in soles on outdoors wear, so you can trust in that pedigree. Fitting like a glove with individual toes means maximum response and flexibility.

The Fivefingers will be suited to anything involving water where things can get a bit slippery – canyoning, kayaking, windsurfing, coasteering – will all benefit from the grip, without going for a larger pair of trainers, or into the realms of neoprene booties.

They come in a range of colours, and at time of writing, can be ordered in the US for $70, more info at http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/.
