Arcam has unleashed the latest audiophile iPod dock in its range - the Arcam rCube.

And don't be put off by this speakers diminutive demeanour, it's a real room filler. We were given a demo by the Arcam chaps and we can confirm that it packs quite a punch.

Measuring in at just 20 x 20 x 20cm and weighing 5kg, the rCube uses a lot of tech that you'll find on board other high-end audio equipment from the Cambridge based brand.

This includes 100mm bass/mid driver, with a bucking magnet to reduce magnetic interference and 25mm aluminium dome tweeters.

There are three digital amplifiers from Maxim Integrated Products with two used in bridge mode for the bass/mid drivers and in stereo mode for the tweeters. It has a total power ouput of 150watts rms. 

There are also seven separate power supplies to feed the various digital and analogue sections of the main board and Arcam states that this helps to "avoid inter-modulation and reduce noise".

The rCube also accepts streamed music from your iDevice using either the rWand iPod docking dongle, or a standard USB dongle called the rWave - both are sold separately. This streaming is courtesy of Kleer tech, which means lossless audio over the airwaves (44.1kHz, 16 bit).

Built in to the rCube is a 2200mAh battery, so you can take your rCube out and about. At full blast you'll get about four hours, with a maximum of eight hours at a quieter level.

The Arcam rCube is out in October and will cost 500 of your British pounds. You'll be able to pick one up at John Lewis.
