Philips' foray into Blu-ray

TripleWriter lets you burn Blu-ray discs, DVD-ROM, and CD-ROM

Philips has showcased its latest Blu-ray device, which will be available from August.

The TripleWriter all-in-one PC Writer integrates CD, DVD, and Blu-ray reading and writing capabilities in one device. It features a 2x read and write speed on BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE media.

Along with the burner Philips is introducing 25 and 50GB version of BD-R and BD-RE discs, which are more robust and scratch-resistant than CD and DVD.

The software that is bundled with the TripleWriter is Nero 7 Essential digital media software.

Blu-ray is being marketed as the next generation of data storage and media playback, as one disc can hold up to nine hours of High Definition movies, 23 hours of standard definition content, or 72 CDs.
