Getac has announced the successor to the V100 rugged tablet-notebook, the V200.

The V200 takes all the tough features from the original and throws in a few extras like a 2.0GHz Intel i7-620LM processor, that can be ramped up to 2.8GHz using Intel's Turbo Boost technology.

As well as the new chip, there is now an option of an 80GB SSD to go with the 320GB HDD.

But with this machine, it's really all about the ruggedness. So just how rugged is it exactly?

Well, for starters the 12.1-inch LCD touchscreen display (WXGA, 1280 x 800) has Getac's 1200 NITs QuadraClear technology built-in, which means you can read and operate the machine in direct sunlight. The display also has resistive multi-touch, which lets you operate the screen even whilst wearing gloves.

The Getac V200 is both MIL-STD-810G and IP65 compliant with a magnesium alloy casing, and the computer can be used in minus-20-degree environments. The V200 also has sealed I/O caps and doors to prevent damage from solid particles and moisture.

Also, if you ever find yourself in a pickle, you can take advantage of the LifeSupport battery swapping system which allows 2 minutes to replace the battery with a fresh one, without shutting the computer down or closing applications.

Back to the hardware and you'll find 2 to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and numerous expansion interfaces including USB, VGA, RS232, eSATA, SD, and PCMCIA. There's also a fingerprint reader, for added security.

The Getac V200 is due out in October.
