PS3 3.42 update ends jailbreaking dreams

Sony has announced a "minor update" for your PS3 firmware that "includes additional security features".

Roughly translated this means that Sony has released a pretty significant system software update that blocks all of the jail-breaking that has been going on as of late.

Gaming site Exophase are stating that "all variants of the USB-hub emulating exploit (PSFreedom, PSGroove, PSJailbreak) are no longer functional in firmware 3.42".

PS3 jail-breaking had been one of the hot topics on gaming forums this week with a revised jailbreak code released into the wild last week.

The code allowed people to hack and mod their consoles using a pre-loaded USB flash drive, running the code themselves or by using devices like the N900, Palm Pre, or even a calculator.

All pretty clever stuff, but not to the liking of Sony bigwigs understandably.

The software update is rolling out now, you should get a notifying message next time you fire up your console.
