BeBook Club promises to be "brilliantly affordable"

A new BeBook has been announced, which you might have missed amongst the onslaught of Apple and IFA announcements.

The new BeBook Club is essentially a cut-down BeBook Neo, losing the Wi-Fi connectivity and seeing a redesigned navigation control. It is described as ideal for the "average and occasional reader". Does this sound like you?

It features a 6-inch E-Ink display, with an 800 x 600 pixel resolution and 8-levels of grey as is typical of these devices.

As is usually the case with BeBook devices, you get wide file format support, with a list including the usual suspects of EPUB, DOC, PDF, TXT, CHM, HTML, FB2, DJVU, mobipocket, PDB, JPG, PNG, WAV, MP3, TIFF, GIF and BMP.

There is 512MB of memory built-in and an SD card slot so you can expand above and beyond this. Support for music means there is also a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Overall the BeBook Club measures 196 x 121 x 10.6mm and weighs 278g.

Prices don’t seem to have been officially announced, but we’ve been told it will be around £170, which means it is substantially more than the new Amazon Kindle, although the open format support means you'll have a wider choice of online book stores to choose from.
