ViewSonic ViewPad 100: Dual boot tablet gets official

3 September 2010 11:36 GMT / By Paul Lamkin

We at Pocket-lint have already had our grubby paws all over it, so it's only right that ViewSonic gives its 10-inch dual-boot Windows 7 and Android 1.6 tablet a name.

And it's done just that - officially confirming that the potential iPad killer will be known as the ViewPad 100.

Why it's not the ViewPad 10 is anybody's guess - after all, the 7-inch version (Android only) is called the ViewPad 7 - but we suppose it doesn't really matter. A rose by any other name and so on....

What is important is the spec.

The ViewPad 100 has a 10-inch LED, 1024 x 600, display and is powered by an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz chip, with 1GB of DDR3 RAM.

There's a 16GB SSD on board, and you can add a further 32GB of space using the microSD slot. It has also got two USB ports and a mini-VGA output for playback on your big screen.

Connectivity is via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS and there's also a G-sensor built in as well.

It's clear that the ViewPad 100 is more than your average tablet, it's more like a netbook in tablet form.

The price, however, is like a tablet - around £549. But, when you consider you're getting virtually two machines in one (even if the Android version is a bit ancient), then this price doesn't seem too bad.

The ViewPad 100 will be hitting the shops in October.
