Watching a 3D Blu-ray movie on your 50-inch Bravia TV is one thing, but what if you are serious about your movies and want to create the 3D experience at home?

Don't panic, Sony has announced, at its IFA press conference in Berlin, Germany, on Wednesday, that it has you covered.

It has confirmed it will be launching a 3D projector for the living room that is 3D ready, and as you might expect Pocket-lint was eyes-on to witness it in all its glory.  

The VPL-VW90ES will offer a dynamic contract of 150,000:1, work with Sony's active glasses technology as found in the company's Bravia television range and alongside a dedicated amp lets you create that 3D experience in your home as if you were in the deluxe seats at the local cinema (theatre).

Eric Kingdom, a product specialist at Sony, gave us a first hand look at the new offering and we have to say we were impressed. Sod paying £15 for a cinema ticket, if you are a movie fan this is very cool, as long as you've got the cash.

The 3D element will work up to 300 inches in size and you'll need to mount a small sensor (it looks like the Sony Eye camera) above your screen to work in tandem with the glasses.

The projector offers Full HD 1080p 3D projection, and can also do 2D to 3D conversion.

We watched a clip from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - the bit with the glass fish bowl - and although it's fair to say that it's animation rather than live action, we were very impressed.

Yours for around £6000 when it launches in October in the UK, meaning by the time you add in the amp and some speakers you'll have change from £8000.

A steep price, but just think of the money you'll save on popcorn.
