Tired of the telly? Why not check out YouTube instead.

YouTube.com, the online video sharing portal, has upgraded its website to make it easier for viewers to subscribe to channels and find the content that they want to watch.

The site allows members to upload video of current events, gigs, their own shows, comedy acts, and whatever they like, as long as it's not pornographic or copyrighted.

YouTube fans get to know certain performers who regularly upload and the site is thus creating celebrity in a new form.

The new site allows users to create playlists to share their interests with like-minded members. The company hopes that the site will free users from the traditional constraints of planned programming on the tv, so that they can decide what and when to watch.

YouTube.com lets users upload and share videos publicly or privately.
