AOL UK up for sale

Report indicates that AOL's British company joins the French and German ones in looking for buyers

The Guardian reports that AOL is selling off its UK internet service provider company, despite being the number three player in the market.

AOL's operations in France and Germany are already up for sale through investment bank Citigroup.

According to the report, AOL's business in the UK is profitable, but the company is looking to move out of the ever-more competitive internet service provider market. It hopes to continue providing AOL content based around its portal.

AOL currently has 2.2 million customers in Britain, 1.3 million of whom are on broadband connections. However, with companies like the Carephone Warehouse's TalkTalk and Orange offering free broadband with telephone service, AOL is likely finding it harder to remain competitive.
