The next generation PlayStation will not be a digital download only console, like the PSP Go, despite the internet rumour mill suggesting that it would be.
Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai quashed the rumours by stating that the framework to release a download only console to the global market is a long way off yet.
Talking to MVC, the SCE CEO said:
“We do business in parts of the world where network infrastructure isn’t as robust as one would hope”, he said.
“There’s always going to be requirement for a business of our size and scope to have a physical medium".
“To think everything will be downloaded in two years, three years or even ten years from now is taking it a little bit to the extreme”.
Hirai's quotes suggest that in certain areas a digital download console might work.
We at Pocket-lint wouldn't be surprised to see non-optical PS4s released in the months after the original PS4 launch in regions like North America, Europe and Asia.
