Nicholas Negroponte, the Chairman of the One Laptop per Child project now expects to sell the laptop for $130 to governments world-wide in April 2007.

The special display that can be viewed in sunlight won't be ready until August or September and the proceedings are held up until it's ready.

Several protypes sporting different colours were unveiled last week, although the organisation will probably pick just one to go into production. The laptops will run on the Linux operating system.

Once demand for the laptop increases, Negroponte expects the price to go down to $100 by August 2008.

Seven countries are looking at the protype and the system that it runs on, including Nigeria, Brazil, Thailand, and Argentina.
