Pocket-lint recently brought you news of RAGE being played on the iPhone, and now we have official word on its release date for your full-fat console.

Revealed at Quakecon 2010, the highly anticipated title from id Software will be available on store shelves and online in North America on 13 September, 2011 and in Europe and Australia on 16 September, 2011.

In a statement, the company said that:

“Gamers all over the world can now officially begin the countdown to the launch of RAGE,” said Todd Hollenshead, president of id Software. “At id, the development team continues their work to complete our newest franchise that will once again elevate the shooter genre”.

The fact that such titles as DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein have previously been developed by id Software, means there is good reason to believe that RAGE should be a cracker.

Available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC the game features intense first-person shooter action, breakneck vehicle combat, an expansive world to explore and jaw-dropping graphics powered by id’s revolutionary id Tech 5 technology.
