Google says no to browser for now

It looks like people have some good browser choices already

Google has no plans to build its own web browser to complete with Microsoft and Mozilla, Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said on Wednesday.

During a conference call with Wall Street analysts, Schmidt dismissed speculation that the company was working on such a project.

"It looks like people have some good browser choices already", Schmidt said. "We would not build a browser for the fun of building a browser", he said.

Google openly campaigns its users to use alternative browsers to Microsoft's Internet Explorer, going as far as offering cash incentives via its affiliate programme to website owners who get people downloading Mozilla's Firefox browser.
