Apple backs down over antenna videos

Videos pulled, but only in the USA

Apple has, surprisingly, removed videos from its American website criticising its competitors.

The decision, which currently only affects the US site, follows high profile ad campaigns by Apple's competitors, such as Motorola and Nokia, against Apple in retaliation for videos the Cupertino giant posted about other manufacturer's own signal issues.

However, those videos, which feature handsets from Nokia, HTC, Motorola, and BlackBerry, have now been taken down from Apple's Smartphone Antenna Performance page and the name changed to Apple's Antenna Design and Test Labs.

The company hasn't given a reason for the sudden removal of the videos, publicised so much at its "Antennagate" press conference on 16 July, just 2 weeks ago.

If you are really keen to see them, they are still available (at time of writing) on Apple's UK and Canadian sites.

Could legal action have forced Apple to drop the videos, or did it acknowledge that the manufacturer backlash wasn't worth the bad press? Let us know what you think in the comments below...
