HTC Desire: Froyo (Android 2.2) update official

Update starts this weekend on unlocked handsets

HTC Desire: Froyo (Android 2.2) update official

30 July 2010 12:11 GMT / By Paul Lamkin

We thought it would happen, after an over zealous HTC employee spilled the beans via Twitter - but now we know for sure.

HTC Desire is getting its Android 2.2, Froyo, update starting 31 July.

We have just received a statement from our HTC contacts that reads:

“The Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for HTC Desire will start rolling out across Europe this weekend. As well as including the complete set of Android 2.2 features, the update will contain a few special additions of our own through the latest iteration of HTC Sense".

"The update will provide 720p video capture, HTC’s App Share widget, as well as our enhanced HTC Caller ID, and improved multi-language keyboard. Also, through the update, HTC Sync will allow HTC Desire users to sync their music with iTunes".

"HTC Desire users will be notified that the over-the-air update is available to download when their phone automatically checks for software updates. The update won’t delete any of the phone’s content. However, due to the size of the update, we would advise using a Wi-Fi connection to download it wherever possible to avoid additional data charges".

"This update will initially roll out to unlocked HTC Desire handsets. Operator specific versions of the update are undergoing testing and we expect to make them available in several weeks’ time”.

So, there you have it. Froyo is on its way imminently. Let us know what you think about it once you've got it all loaded up. A major upgrade or some minor tweeks?

Also, make sure your read our HTC Desire review to see what we thought of the device.

  • Although it does say a strange OS number - OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip Wonder why it is saying version 2.09? Posted by manutdot, UK
  • FroYo 2.2 official OTA Wi-Fi functionality stuck/not working

I called belkin and they assured me that since all other wi-fi devices in the vicinity are functioning "as expected" that since the phone was updated it broke the connection with my F5D8231-4 v2. different topic => i went over my friend's house that only has a win vista laptop and a hardwired cable modem. so i created an ad-hoc network to share internet from her laptop across the house, worked just fine on my Apple iPod, but my Android Phone wouldn't even read the ad-hoc network broadcasting. And now with my home router incompatibility and not being able to discover ad-hoc networks, these are the times that i sincerely applaud Apple for doing such a marvelous job. I applaud you Steve Jobs! Not even my Android phone would let me take a picture photo in an American Airport Terminal as a farewell with a family member, said some sh*t like it had insufficient privileges to save to SD-card or some sh*t/ I never thought I'd say this but, I heart Apple. <3 Google you ***ked up. (:
