HTC Hero owners set up Facebook group to lobby Orange

Over 300 disgruntled HTC Hero owners have signed up to a Facebook campaign to urge Orange, the UK operator, to bring Android 2.1 to the popular phone launched last year.

Called the rather catchy "Orange UK - Give HTC Hero owners the 2.1 Update - NOW", the group's founder, Geoffrey Mansfield, is calling for Orange to provide more information regarding the 2.1 update to its customers with HTC Hero mobiles.

Orange is the last operator for the handset to release and information about the update.

HTC started its rollout in June in the UK, while T-Mobile has now also started offering its users the chance to upgrade. Although 3 has also yet to offer its customers the 2.1 offering, it did let them know that it wouldn't be until the end of the July.

"Orange UK Customer Service department will not give any definitive answers to questions posed by numerous customers on various android forums", says Mansfield. "Please use this group to register your disapproval, and I will forward the group link to Orange UK, for consideration".

Pocket-lint has contacted Orange on a number of occasions to see whether or not it would tell us any further information as to when it plans to deliver the update.

"We're awaiting final approval from our partners on the Orange 2.1 HTC Hero update, and will make it available as soon as we can. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause customers in the mean time", an Orange spokesperson told us.

Looks like we will have to keep you posted.
