Portable media players are dab handy, but they can be expensive, as such we've found this Viewsonic VPD400 8GB effort on Pixmania for a shade under £60.
Specs for the player include a 4.3-inch screen at 800 x 480 resolution, 8GB internal memory with a microSD card slot. It will also support a decent range of file formats, including JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG for pics; MP3, WMA, WAV, APE, FLAC for tunes; and video support with AVI, RM, RMVB, FLV, MOV.
The size of the unit measures in at 113 x 74 x14mm, so it's all pretty compact but due to this we don't expect the speakers will be up to much - especially if you're watching film - fortunately you get a pair of headphones chucked into the deal as well as remote and a USB cable.
The built-in battery should last for around 4 hours of normal video playback, but the device will also cope with 720p video so knock off around 30 mins battery life if you're watching anything higher-def.
It's by no means perfect, but for £59.94 definitely worth a look.
