The fallout from Fring's decision to enable, then disable, 3G video calling via Skype seems set to run and run, with Skype hitting back at Fring's labelling of it as a coward and its claim that the VoIP giant had banned it from accessing the service.
Skype claims that Fring only has itself to blame for the situation and insists that it hasn't banned Fring - its unavailability is a result of its own actions.
Speaking via the Skype blog, Skype's legal VP Robert Miller said:
"Fring was using Skype software in a way it wasn’t designed to be used - and in a way which is in breach of Skype’s API Terms of Use and End User License Agreement.
"We’ve been talking with Fring for some time to try to resolve this amicably. However, over time, Fring’s mis-use of our software was increasingly damaging our brand and reputation with our customers".
"Fring withdrew support for video calls over Skype on iOS 4 without warning, again damaging our brand and disappointing our customers, who have high expectations of the Skype experience".
What this means for you and us is simple - no Skype video calling on our iPhones for the time being.
We're massive fans of Skype here at Pocket-lint, we record our (brilliant) podcast using it every week, and we're hoping that the VoIP service updates its own iPhone app to give us video calling some time soon.
Let us know how you feel about Skype and Fring's row. Are you disappointed that you can't use Skype's video calling features on your iPhone yet?
