Motorola Charm(s) you with Android

First Android 2.1 Motoblur handset

Motorola aims to Charm you with its latest Android handset

Motorola has announced its latest Android handset - and it's not Droid related. No, we're talking about the Motorola Charm - an Android 2.1 device sporting Motorola's very own UI, Motoblur.

Motorola is saying that this is the first 2.1 device to feature Motoblur and look, we're not going to disagree with them, especially as it seems to be true.

On first inspection the Motorola Charm looks a bit like a fat, squashed BlackBerry Bold. But our mother told us never to judge a book by its cover so we better take a look at what lies beneath.

Well, beneath the 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen and physical QWERTY there is an array of connectivity options including WCDMA 1700/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 3.6 Mbps (Category 5/6), EDGE Class 12 and GPRS Class 12. There's also Wi-Fi (b/g/n), GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR.

On the back of the Charm is a Backtrack, which acts like a laptop mousepad and lets you navigate without obstructing the screen. This mouse-like feature was rumoured to be included on the iPhone 4, but as we all now know, it wasn't. There's also a 3-megapixel, fixed-focus, digital zoom camera.

Motorola will be releasing the Charm in the States on T-Mobile this summer. If you get one, make sure you've got big pockets. Skinny jeans are out of the equation for this 67.2 x 98.4 x 11.4 mm chubster.
