Freesat with Slingbox PVR rumoured

Freesat as well as Freeview option coming supposedly

5 July 2010 0:38 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Slingmedia has reportedly confirmed that it plans to launch a Freesat+ PVR receiver in the UK before the end of the year, with its Slingbox location shifting feature built in.

According to joinfreesat.co.uk, an unofficial Freesat news site based in the UK, "the Slingbox product is expected to go on sale by the end of 2010, though prices are yet to be confirmed. There are also thoughts that this device may also include DVB-T2 technology for Freeview".

Sling Media already offers a Freeview ready box in the UK, however not a Freesat enabled device.

Interestingly the site that only covers Freesat news says it is "surprised that Freesat have agreed to such technology given it allows access to UK broadcasters channels outside the UK".

Still the ability to stream your Freesat channels to anywhere in your home or the world via an internet connection sounds good to us.

We've put in a call to Slingmedia and are awaiting comment. We will update the story if and when that happens.
