Three new channels for US 3D lovers

DirecTV thricely enters the 3D TV arena

US satellite giant DirecTV has launched three 3D channels in partnership with Panasonic. The channels, which are free for DirecTV's HD subscribers, makes DirecTV the first US satellite TV provider "to bring dedicated HD 3D content" to American homes.

The three channels on offer add to the existing ESPN 3D channel that was launched on 11 June and is currently showing the World Cup live in 3D (we bet England's defence still looked static and two-dimensional, even in 3D).

The new channels are headed up by the flagship n3D channel, which will show original 3D programming such as Guitar Center Sessions, Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia, Wild Safari: A South African Adventure, S.O.S Planet, African Adventure: Safari in the Okavango and Encounter in the Third Dimension.

n3D will also offer sporting events like NASCAR racing, the upcoming NY Yankees and Seattle Mariners series and an exclusive broadcast of Fox Sports' 2010 MLB All-Star game on 13 July.

DirecTV Cinema 3D will specialise in IMAX style 3D titles like Deep Sea 3D, and DirecTV on Demand 3D will kick off by showing replays of the ESPN 3D World Cup broadcasts.

It's exciting news for 3D TV fans, and, with Sky promising 3D broadcasting in UK living rooms later this year, we could be on the cusp of a 3D TV revolution. So don your glasses, sit back and expect a headache if you watch for too long.
