Sony issues update to stop Vaio laptops overheating

Overheating issues strike again

Sony is not recalling over half a million of its Vaio laptops because of fears of overheating as per claimed by the Wall Street Journal, the company has confirmed to Pocket-lint.

The US paper is reporting that the company plans to recall "259,000 units in the U.S., 103,000 in Europe, 120,000 in Asia and 52,000 in Japan".

However that isn't the case, claims Sony. What it is saying though, is that it has issued a warning about "a potential issue with some F11 and CW2 series models".

That issue, says Sony, can be fixed via a BIOS update from its website:

"There have been no reports to date of any issues with these models in the UK", says Sony.

The WSJ are claiming that the recall affects some F and C Series Vaio laptops, but only ones sold this year, and that the overheating supposedly distorts the shape of the laptop.

It's not the first time that Sony has had to deal with Vaio products overheating. In 2006 and 2008 Sony was hit by massive problems with batteries in its laptops overheating.
