HTC Desire, Legend and Wildfire to get Froyo (2.2) by October

HTC is having to play cat and mouse once again it seems, following Google's roll out of Android 2.2: Froyo for the Nexus One, as it looks to update its latest handsets with the latest build.

"We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on Froyo [2.2] and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible. We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3".

Is the official line from the company in a statement to Pocket-lint.

The news, while welcomed by most HTC Legend and Desire owners, will also bring with it frustration that yet again they are being forced to wait months to get the most recent version of Android on their phones.

HTC Hero owners have had to wait over a year before being bumped from Android 1.5 to Android 2.1, something that is only just rolling out this week.

While the Nexus one can easily get the latest updates as they happen thanks to its unfettered operating system approach, HTC's decision to offer a skin, the Sense UI, on top of standard Android is clearly slowing the update process down.

Should Google slow down the updates to just one a year, or is the every couple of months approach better? Let us know in the comments below.
