Big launches are always blighted by a series of glitches. It's inevitable that people are going to find minor faults with new products, especially if they are products being sold in their millions like the iPhone 4. But a dropping of signal because of the way you hold your phone, well, call us crazy but we think that it is more than a minor glitch.

To be fair to Apple boss Steve Jobs though, he did personally reply to one annoyed Apple customer:

Hmmmm. So don't hold your phone in the way in which you usually would is the advice. Change the habit you've built up during your whole life when it comes to holding handsets. Seems like pretty shoddy advice to us. Even more so when you consider the official Apple statement:

"Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases".

For you see the trouble with this advice is that is contradicts what Apple has told us in the past, by way of its iPhone 4 TV commercials. Because in that advert, the actors seem to cover the lower left corner a hell of a lot:
