Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has been detailed at E3 in Los Angeles, plus we got to play with a demo level, plus it now supports the Wii Motion Plus controller on the Wii Remote.
That's the good news, the bad news is that it's not going to be out until some point in 2011.
Still what do we think of the new effort from Nintendo for the Nintendo Wii? Read on to find out.
Name
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
What platform is it on?
Nintendo Wii
When's it due out?
2011
What other game is it like?
Every other Legend of Zelda you've played
Does it use any new tech like 3D, PlayStation Move, or Kinect for Xbox 360?
No
The pitch
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword marks a turning point for the franchise, as the introduction of full motion controls enabled by the Wii MotionPlus accessory synchronizes player movements and Links actions while offering the most intuitive play control of any Legend of Zelda game to date.
The storyline
There isn't one at the moment, but it will no doubt involve you saving someone, probably the princess, who is in trouble once again. Think Jack Bauer and his daughter from 24 series 2.
Our first impressions
Every couple of years for the last 12 Nintendo has released another Legend of Zelda that once again sees you play Link and once again has you battling monsters, plants and swashbuckling your way to victory. 2011 looks to be no different with another outing for Link.
Here Nintendo has attempted to introduce greater control of the controls thanks to Wii Motion Plus support, that lets you swipe in the exact same way on screen as you are in real life.
And in our quick one level demo play we found that to be the case most of the time. Swipe up and so does link, sideways and it's the same. Furthermore acting as though you are putting your Wii Remote in your pocket and you're able to get things out of your inventory.
In practice and it's a bit of a faff even if it is more "real". Gameplay wise and it was clear that this is a level perhaps not even of the game, it certainly didn't look ready or like anything that would eventually make the final grade when the game comes out in 2011.
So what do we think? To be honest it was hard to see where Skyward Sword takes the storyline and gameplay beyond what we've been enjoying since The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, still Zelda fans will love that it is virtually the same as before, and just more of what they love.
Please note
The E3 games convention is a fantastic chance to see the latest games due out over the coming year, as well as, letting us get a glimpse into what is going to be the big titles and the ones to avoid like the plague.
The big problem however is that for most of the titles that glimpse is, well, just that. At the show you'll get to play a level here or a multiplayer map there.
So with that in mind we present you with our Quick Play.
What we've done is broken down the key facts you need to know and then given you our first impressions based on around 15 minutes of gaming. For us that 15 minutes isn't enough to do a First Look review. How can you rate a game that offers over 30 hours of gaming on just 15 minutes of play? However it should hopefully give you an idea, a feeling, a notion, of what to expect come launch day.
