Tory MP has social networking profiles hacked

Therese Coffey's Twitter, Facebook and blog accounts peppered with obscenities

Tory MP has social networking profiles hacked

17 June 2010 17:31 GMT / By Rik Henderson

Conservative MP Therese Coffey has had her Twitter and Facebook accounts, and personal blog broken into. And, before they were restored to her control, the hacker posted several sexually explicit messages, posing as the politician, including a whole tirade on David Cameron's wife.

Fortunately, though, as London Spin reveals, the hacker was stupid enough to leave behind his email address: “Apologies to everyone," posted Coffey on Twitter. "My account has been hacked. Hopefully back under control now. I have the email address of the person who has hacked in, so hopefully I can do something about it”.

Of course, it begs the question of whether social networking sites are the best venue for politicians to get across their messages, and this has not been the first instance of an MP being tripped up by one. Perhaps those in public office should be a little more careful with their passwords?
