Samsung held its official launch party to blast off the Samsung Galaxy S today in London. It was a star-studded bash, but we were there to get our hands on the hardware to deliver a thick fat stream of tech geekery into your lives.

The Samsung Galaxy S is the Korean company's monster Android handset, going up against the likes of the HTC Desire and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

With a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen - a technology seen on the Samsung Wave - it comes rocking Android 2.1 with Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 interface over the top.

Like the Wave, this is also a Bluetooth 3 device, packs in a 5-megapixel camera and a 1GHz processor. 720p video capture and playback is also offered, making this a veritable media powerhouse.

We're putting together our first thoughts on the Galaxy S and whilst we do, why not browse these snaps and decide for yourself whether the "S" stands for "star" or "so what?".
