Engadget is reporting that Samsung will unleash its projector Galaxy Beam handset in Singapore next month, meaning a European and US release should follow soon if Samsung's earlier promises are met.
The Samsung Galaxy Beam, codenamed the Halo, is an Android 2.1, 3.7-inch Super AMOLED smartphone with HSDPA 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. There's also A-GPS and an FM radio built in too.
Camera-wise you're looking at 8 megapixels with auto-focus and flash and there's also HD video recording and a front facing camera too.
It will play most video files including MPEG4, H.264, WMV, Xvid and DivX. You'll be able to project these videos onto a 50-inch wide surface courtesy of the built in nine lumens projector.
Projectors could become a standard feature on mobile phone handsets going forward, in the same way that we now expect camera functionality. After all, it makes sense to be able to share your phone's video content without needing your pals to crowd around a tiny little screen.
So what do you guys think? Would you find a projector useful? Give us your thoughts using the comments section below.
