Sony VAIO J Series PC invites you to stroke it lovingly

Sony's VAIO series of PCs and laptops have certainly always been stylish, if not the highest specified, and the J Series is no exception. However, it also weighs in with the tech specs too.

To start with, it has a 21.5-inch touchscreen, housed in a body fit to grace the Milanese catwalks. Called VAIO Display Plus, the screen's tech allows for intuitive fingertip control, and is Full HD (1920 x 1080), to boot. It's been designed to make media playing tasks as easy as possible.

Admirable bits and bobs continue inside the all-in-one desktop unit: An Intel Core i3-350M 2.26 GHz processor accompanies the Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics chip, while its 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM provides the punch.

A 500GB hard drive is also installed, along with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. And Bluetooth makes peripheral connectivity easier.

Apart from the screen, though, what strikes this VAIO PC apart from its peers is the adoption of Sony's proprietary media player software. Media Gallery is specifically designed for the touchscreen, allowing for easy browsing of files with touch, flick, drag and rotate gestures. It even learns from your preferences, recommending new content as you use it more.

An art programme, YouPaint, is also onboard.

There's no pricing details as yet, but the VAIO J Series will be available from "June 2010" in Sony Centres, the online store and selected retailers.
