Motorola has followed up its Motorola Milestone handset with a keyboard-less offering called the Milestone XT720 - a variant of the Motoroi (which we exclusively told you about last month).

The new model, based on the Motoroi, which virtually fits the description but not the looks of the Motorola Droid Xtreme, and teased in leaked photos over the weekend, will come with an 8-megapixel camera, 10x digital zoom, Zenon flash (the first for an Android phone), image stabilisation and offer 720p movie recording.

Powered by Android 2.1, the phone is Motorola's latest Android handset bringing its global tally to 11 models in total.

Just 10.9mm thick, thanks to dispensing with a slide out QWERTY keyboard, the phone will offer the usual HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as give you the option to expand the storage via a microSD slot that is good for up to 32GB - you'll get 8GB in the box.

Other exciting features for those looking to shout about specs are an HDMI-out socket, so you can stream movies or content straight to a HD ready TV and an ARM Cortex 8 processor running at 550MHz. Motorola is also promising 9 hours battery life from a single charge. It will come with a 60-day trial of MotoNav so you can take advantage of the phone's GPS.

It will be Flash lite friendly and ready for Flash 10 when that becomes available.

Due this quarter (ie. the end of the month) via operators, and Play.com, Clove and Expansys for pre-order from Friday, the phone isn't due to be getting a Android 2.2 update as yet, but as it isn't running Moto blur, the chance of that upgrade happening is likely to be high.

UPDATE: According to ITProPortal the Motorola XT720 has had its processor changed from the ARM Cortex 8 running at 550MHz to an ARM-Cortex A8 SoC running at 720MHz.
